Balik Besigan: A CDOBloggers Outreach Activity 2014

CDOBloggers - Balik Besigan 2014

Last December 2011, CDOBloggers went to the farthest and last barangay of Cagayan de Oro City, Barangay Besigan, for their Christmas outreach, book giving and feeding activity. Cadayunan Primary School is the benefactor for this outreach.

Throwback post: Back to School Activity at Cadayunan Primary School

The last Barangay of Cagayan de Oro City, Besigan, is approximately 2 to 3 hours of travel. It can only be reached when you ride a dump truck and motorcycle. The residents also said that the truck is their only transport to and fro the city which is provided by the city government. This is the only time that they can bring their root crops, vegetables and firewood to the city for selling.

The ride that we experienced at that time is not an easy but a bumpy one. If you have a fear of heights, then you should not look at the sides of the road where you can see a cliff. It was indeed challenging but when you see the students of the school, it was all worth it. It was an experience that we couldn’t forget – a very memorable one.

Now, the CDOBloggers is planning another outreach to Cadayunan Primary School. If you missed the last time to donate, this is the right time to do so. Any extra amount that you have will be a big help. If you also know someone that would like to donate, please do share the word.

Outreach and Feeding Program at Cadayunan Primary School

CDOBloggers Outreach Feeding Program

Last January 2009, Cagayan de Oro was going through heavy flash floods which many families and individuals have been affected. CDO Bloggers made a campaign to help our fellow Kagay-anons and ask for donations. And now, it is time for another outreach activity.

CDO Bloggers is having an Outreach and Feeding Program this coming December 2, 2011 at Cadayunan Primary School, a newly opened school at Besigan which is 52 kms away from the city. The group will start the program at 8 o’clock on a Friday morning. The school just opened last June 2011 and it has 60 primary students and only 2 teachers are in-charge. Prior to the opening, the students have to walk to the nearest school which is about 12 kms from their home. If you sum it all up, they will walk 24 kms EVERYDAY that is why most of the youngsters are skipping school and finally stop schooling. This is really a blessing to all the residents of Besigan so that their children will have an opportunity to learn and attain education.

Please lets help the school because they are in need of education materials to help not only the students but to the teachers in imparting efficient education on them.

The CDO Bloggers is committed to help either on cash or in kind donations. To those who wants to help the school and students, please email us at For online transactions, you can send in donations through Paypal at We will accept books, notebooks, papers and other school supplies that you can share.

Also, please help us promote this outreach program to others. We will appreciate it much. 🙂

Solar Energy Plant in Cagayan de Oro

The heat from the sun, or popularly called as Solar energy is one of the most available renewable energy on earth along with wind power and hydroelectricity and such. Solar powered electrical generation relies on heat engines and photovoltaics. There are many ways to harvest solar energy and the most common is to use solar panels.

Last August 6 at 9 o’clock in the morning, the CDOBloggers gather at CEPALCO’s office to visit the site of the world’s first and largest on-grid Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Power Plant at Barangay Indahag. They call the plant 1 Megawatt Photovoltaic Power Plant and it was inaugurated in 2004. It is a 1MWp polycrystalline silicon-based PV plant and connected with the distribution of network of CEPALCO.  Its commercial operations started last September 26, 2004. At its current generating capacity, the plant supplies no less than 900 CEPALCO residential customers.

The 1 MWp plant’s installation costs close to $5.3 Million, uses 6,500 solar panels on 2 hectares of land and partially funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) which was facilitated by the World Bank through the International Finance Corporation. It has already been visited by over 10,000 students and visitors both local and foreign renewable energy enthusiasts since it started operations.

CEPALCO is now setting out on a larger 30-hectare solar park within the First Cagayan de Oro Business Park located in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental, just about 30 minutes from the Cagayan de Oro City. This proposed plant will be able to supply with not less than 14,000,000 kWh of electricity powering more or less 18,000 residents. Through CEPALCO, more people will be aware on renewable energy and how good it will be for our environment.
